The Brazilian Blowout is quickly becoming that rage among Hollywood, African Americans and elsewhere as it boasts that it can turn curly to kinky hair into a smooth, sleek dream without the use of a relaxer and it’s damaging chemicals.  The process involves:

1. Wash hair with clarifying shampoo

2. Apply keratin, much in the same manner as hair color.

3. Blow-drying the hair.

4. Flat-iron in very small sections to seal in the formula with extreme heat (450-degrees)

5. Rinse and dry one more time.

From start to finish, the treatment will take approximately 90 minutes and cost in the neighborhood of $350 dollars

HOWEVER….The FDA is throwing a flag on the field. On September 11, 2011 the agency warned the company that their product contained an extremely dangerous level of formaldehyde, 8.7% to 10.4%, to be exact, and The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires an occupational hazard alert at levels higher than 0.1% .

Eye and nervous system disorders, respiratory tract problems, chest pain, vomiting, and rash were injuries reported to the FDA by consumers and workers in salons that use Brazilian Blowout kits, and the FDA is saying day-to-day exposure to these chemicals is where the danger lies.

Hmmmmm so the next time you get your wig did…tip her well…she might need to be saving up for a doctor bill……….
